About Ian Dalton — Piano Technician, Richmond

I’m Ian Dalton, a professionally trained piano technician based in Richmond, West London. I provide piano tuning, repairs, regulation and voicing for private clients, music teachers and schools across West, South West and Central London.

My Training and Background

I studied piano technology at the North Bennet Street School in Boston — one of the world’s most respected programmes for professional piano technicians. Alongside my studies I worked with Fred Mudge at World Class Piano, gaining hands-on experience across a wide range of instruments from concert grands to everyday family uprights. That combination of formal training and professional practice gives me a solid technical foundation for any piano I work on.

Based in Richmond

In 2025 I relocated to Richmond and re-established Dalton Piano Services here. I now serve clients across Richmond, Kew, Twickenham, Barnes, Putney, Chiswick, Wimbledon and the wider West and South West London area. Every visit is carried out personally — I don’t subcontract work to other technicians.

My Approach

Every piano is different. Age, environment, use and history all affect how an instrument behaves, and good piano technology starts with listening carefully before reaching for any tools. Whether I’m preparing a grand piano for a performance or bringing a neglected upright back into regular use, I take the same methodical approach — accurate, honest and without unnecessary upselling.
